The vision of PCS is to foster a safe, equitable and relationship- centered environment where students are encouraged and equipped to build upon their academic and social/emotional skills to develop the confidence to be the best version of themselves. Our goal at Phillip C. Showell is to assist each of our students on their journey to reaching their dreams. We promise to provide a safe, caring and fun learning environment for all of our students.
Our academic programs are designed to meet state standards and promote high levels of achievement in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Our ELA curriculum, entitled CKLA, is based on the science of reading research which drives our reading and writing instructional calendar. During ELA we focus on guided reading, writing, and phonics instruction. In our Bridges mathematics curriculum, we emphasize problem-solving, critical thinking, and real-world application of skills. Science and social studies curricula are inquiry-based, encouraging students to explore and ask questions about the world around them.
Again this year, our entire school will be participating in PCS Reads- a whole school reading program. Everyone in our school- students, custodians, and office staff will be reading the same book twice a week during our Morning Meetings. The goal is to foster a love of reading for all of our PCS family!
For students who qualify academically, we offer district- wide gifted and talented programs called TIDES for 3rd grade and EXCEL for students in 4th and 5th graders. These programs provide enrichment opportunities in various subject areas. Gifted and Talented students engage in higher-level thinking tasks, participate in specialized projects, and have access to advanced coursework. This program is designed to challenge and motivate high-achieving students while fostering their creativity and leadership skills.
We are also excited to have many ways that our students can engage outside the classroom. Students that qualify From Let Me Run and Girls on the Run to National Honor Society and The Circle. Our students find ways to pursue their passions at PCS.
Our goal is to stay connected with our families and PCS community. In order to increase this communication, our school has a Facebook page- PCS Elementary School. We will be posting updates and photos throughout the year. Be sure to follow us! We also utilize Class Dojo to stay in contact daily with families. Each of these resources will help to keep you connected with all that is going on at PCS.
