The Appoquinimink School District, located in southern New Castle County, Delaware, serves more than 13,000 students in grades PK-12. At Appoquinimink, students, parents, educators and the community share a common vision about high achievement, a fact which has helped our students earn one of the best academic records in the state.
As Delaware's fastest growing school system, we've learned to thrive on change. Since 2000, Appoquinimink has opened 15 new schools, finished additions at seven other buildings, and completed an aggressive schedule of renovations designed to support 21st century learning.
Thanks to the strong backing we receive from parents, homeowners and the community; we can confidently state that our staff and educational facilities are among the best in the tri-state area!
Connecting our children to the future
Appoquinimink is the first public school system in Delaware to adopt strategically important 21st Century languages in every elementary, middle and high school. By the time they graduate, our students have had the option of sampling a total of six different languages, with college-level coursework and a Seal of Multiliteracy available to high-performing students.
Our immersion program represents a KG-12 progression and is available in target languages Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. (Candidates must be accepted into the immersion program before beginning kindergarten. An application process and lottery is required.)
The nonprofit education ranking service Niche has named ASD Delaware's #1 School District since 2018. We have been named one of America's Best Communities for Music Education since 2016 and are proud to send our award-winning students and teams to a host of national-level competitions.
Globally-focused initiatives include: cultural exchange opportunities (virtual and in person), world affairs programs, service learning and entrepreneurial activities, as well as dozens of Career & Technical Education pathways.
In addition to developing cultural awareness, we work to develop 21st Century skills including: essential thinking and reasoning, the ability to work collaboratively, learn new technologies, skillfully exchange ideas and information across borders, and develop a positive work ethic.
As you can see, we are working in very concrete ways to "give our kids the world." Our goal, as always, is to make it a time of unparalleled success for ALL our students.
Location
Appoquinimink offers a traditional small town atmosphere in a location that provides easy access to major business and entertainment centers. Residents are just 30 minutes from Delaware's largest city, one hour from the beach, and minutes from nationally recognized colleges and universities.
Parents are partners in our district. That means we want to hear from you regularly. So please be sure to attend open house events and conferences. Take advantage of the workshops at your student's school. Communicate with your child's teacher on a regular basis, and consider attending our Board of Education Meetings which happen the second Tuesday of each month. We're looking forward to a great school year and to working with you to make Appoquinimink the pride of Delaware.
